Quick Answer
Hotel website design at Doctor Barns Tech in Accra costs from GHS 5,000 for a starter site, GHS 6,000 for a 10+ page Professional site, and from GHS 15,000 for a custom booking engine with Mobile Money and card deposits. Our hotel sites typically launch in 2 to 5 weeks, with first-year hosting and domain included and you owning the code.
If you're looking for hotel website design in Ghana, you're probably not looking for "a nice website". You're looking for a way to stop handing 15% or more of every room night to a booking platform. I'm Dr. Barns, founder of Doctor Barns Tech in Accra, and I want to be straight with you from the first paragraph: a hotel website is only worth paying for if it brings in direct bookings and makes your front desk's life easier. If it doesn't do that, it's a brochure, and you can print brochures for less.
Here are the questions hotel owners and general managers actually ask me when they walk into our studio on New Town Road:
- "How much will a proper hotel website cost me in cedis, and what am I paying for every year after?"
- "Can guests pay a deposit with MTN MoMo or Telecel Cash, or will it only take Visa?"
- "Will I still need Booking.com and Expedia, or can I cut them off?"
- "How do I get my hotel to show up on Google Maps with prices and a 'Book' button?"
- "The last developer built a site and disappeared. Who owns the domain? Who has the password?"
- "My guests are in Accra, London, Houston and Lagos. Will the site work for all of them?"
This guide answers every one of those, with real numbers. I'll show you what a hotel website should do, what it costs, how the booking and payment flow works with Mobile Money, how Google Hotel listings fit in, and the exact steps we follow. By the end you'll know what to ask any developer, including us, and you'll be able to spot a cheap quote that's going to cost you more later.
Why does a hotel in Ghana need its own website when it's already on Booking.com?
Because every booking that comes through an online travel agency (OTA) costs you a commission, and every booking that comes through your own website doesn't. That's the whole argument in one sentence. The OTAs are excellent at putting your rooms in front of travellers. They're also expensive, and they own the relationship with the guest.
Booking.com doesn't publish one flat rate for every property, but Fáilte Ireland's channel research describes Booking.com charging a minimum 15% commission, with a higher rate for properties in its preferred partner programme. Expedia and other OTAs work on their own commission contracts too. Your exact figure is in your extranet agreement, so pull it up before you read the next section, because we're about to do some maths with it.
The maths every hotel owner should do once
Say you run a 20-room boutique hotel in East Legon. Your average rate is GHS 900 a night. You sell 300 room nights a month through OTAs at a 15% commission. That's GHS 135 per room night, or GHS 40,500 a month leaving your hotel in commission.
Now say a good website, a working Google Business Profile and a WhatsApp follow-up routine move just 60 of those room nights to direct bookings. Paystack's published rate for Ghana is 1.95% per local transaction with no setup fee, so on a GHS 900 booking you pay about GHS 17.55 in processing instead of GHS 135 in commission. That's roughly GHS 117 saved per room night, or about GHS 7,000 a month on those 60 nights.
That's an example, not a promise. Your rate, your occupancy and your guest mix are different. But run your own numbers. For most hotels with any OTA volume at all, a GHS 6,000 to GHS 15,000 website pays for itself in a few months if it's built to convert.
The commission isn't the only cost
When a guest books through an OTA, the OTA usually controls the communication, the guest's details and often the review. That guest is more likely to book through the OTA again next time. When they book with you directly, you get their phone number, their email and their WhatsApp. You can send a "welcome back" rate for their next trip, a birthday offer, or a note about your Christmas brunch. That relationship compounds year after year.
I'm not telling you to leave the OTAs. For most Ghanaian hotels, especially those relying on international arrivals, the OTAs are a necessary marketing channel. The goal is balance: use OTAs to get discovered, and use your website to convert repeat guests, corporate clients, diaspora families and anyone who finds you on Google.
What should a hotel website in Ghana actually include?
A hotel website that earns its keep needs eight things: fast mobile pages, real room photos with clear rates, a live availability and booking engine, Mobile Money and card deposits, WhatsApp booking, a strong Google presence, trust signals, and an admin panel your team can actually use. Everything else is decoration.
Here's what each one means in practice.
1. Fast pages built for a phone on mobile data
Most of your guests will open your site on a phone, often on MTN or Telecel mobile data, often in a taxi from Kotoka. Heavy sliders and auto-playing videos kill load time and burn guests' data bundles. We build hotel sites to load fast on a mid-range Android phone first, then scale up to desktop.
2. Room pages that answer every question
Each room type gets its own page: real photos (not stock), bed size, maximum guests, size in square metres, view, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, breakfast included or not, and the rate. Guests should never have to WhatsApp you to ask "is breakfast included?" If they do, your page failed.
3. A booking engine with live availability
This is the heart of the site. Guests pick dates, see which rooms are free, see the total, and book. More on the options below, because this is where most cheap quotes cut corners.
4. Mobile Money and card payments
Ghanaian guests pay with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money. International guests pay with Visa and Mastercard. Your booking engine must handle both. Paystack, for example, supports MTN, AirtelTigo and Telecel mobile money in Ghana alongside cards, and settles in cedis.
5. WhatsApp booking and follow-up
Many Ghanaian guests still prefer to chat before they pay. A click-to-WhatsApp button on every room page, with a pre-filled message ("Hi, I'm interested in the Deluxe Room for 12–14 December"), turns hesitation into a conversation your front desk can close. Our complete guide to WhatsApp Business in Ghana covers how to set up quick replies and catalogues for this.
6. Google visibility
Proper on-page SEO for searches like "hotel in Osu", "hotel near Kotoka airport" or "guest house in Takoradi", plus schema markup that tells Google you're a hotel, plus a properly managed Google Business Profile. I cover Google Hotel listings in detail below.
7. Trust signals
Your physical address with a map, your Ghana Post GPS address, your phone number, your licence and classification from the Ghana Tourism Authority where you have it, your cancellation policy in plain English, and links to your genuine reviews on Google. Diaspora guests booking from abroad are nervous about sending money to a hotel they've never seen. Make it easy for them to check you're real.
8. An admin panel your staff will use
Your reservations manager should be able to change rates for Independence Day weekend, block a room for maintenance, or add a new package without calling a developer. If the admin panel needs a developer, you'll stop updating it within three months.
How much does hotel website design in Ghana cost?
At Doctor Barns Tech, a professional hotel website starts at GHS 6,000, adding Mobile Money deposits to an existing booking flow starts at GHS 3,000, and a fully custom booking engine starts at GHS 15,000. These are our published prices, and the first year of hosting and domain is included with website packages.
| Option | Best for | What you get | Price (GHS) | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter website | Guest houses, small lodges | 5 pages, basic SEO, SSL, WhatsApp enquiries, 1 month support, training | 5,000 | 2–5 weeks |
| Professional website | Boutique and mid-size hotels | 10+ pages, CMS for rooms and offers, blog, WhatsApp, advanced SEO, 3 months support | 6,000 | 2–5 weeks |
| Payment integration | Hotels adding MoMo and card deposits to an existing booking flow | Paystack or similar gateway connected, payment confirmations, reconciliation | from 3,000 | 1–3 weeks |
| Custom booking engine | Hotels that want full control of availability, rates and deposits | Live availability, seasonal rates, promo codes, MoMo and card deposits, admin dashboard | from 15,000 | 6–12 weeks |
| Ongoing SEO and marketing | Hotels that want more direct traffic | Monthly SEO, content, Google Business Profile management | from 1,500/month | Ongoing |
After year one, hosting renewals start at GHS 300 a year and domain renewals at GHS 80 a year, and the domain is registered in your hotel's name, not ours. Payment is 50% upfront and 50% on launch, by Mobile Money, bank transfer or card. You own the code, the content, the domain and the guest data. We don't take a commission on your bookings. Full detail is on our published pricing page.
What cheap hotel website quotes usually leave out
Here's a pattern to watch for. Say a hotel owner takes a GHS 2,000 quote and signs. Six months later the site still isn't taking bookings. Here's what is usually missing in that kind of quote:
- No real booking engine. Just a contact form that emails the front desk, which nobody checks on a Sunday.
- No payment. Guests are told to "send MoMo to this number" with no confirmation and no reconciliation.
- Domain in the developer's name. When the relationship ends, the hotel loses its own web address.
- No SSL or backups. A browser "Not Secure" warning on a page that asks for payment is the fastest way to lose a booking.
- No training. The hotel can't change a single price without paying again.
- No SEO. The site exists but nobody finds it.

Which booking engine is best for a Ghanaian hotel?
The best booking engine for a Ghanaian hotel is one that accepts Mobile Money, syncs availability with your OTAs so you never double-book, and gives your staff one place to see every reservation. There are three ways to get there, and the right one depends on your size.
Option A: A third-party booking engine on your own website
Many hotel software providers offer a booking widget you embed on your site. It's quick to launch. The trade-offs: a monthly fee, sometimes a per-booking fee, limited control over the design, and in many cases weak or no Mobile Money support, because most of these tools are built for card-first markets. Check MoMo support before you sign anything. If the provider is connected to Google, it may also handle your Google free booking links for you.
Option B: Your website plus a payment integration
For guest houses and smaller hotels, a well-built Professional website with a simple reservation request flow and a Paystack deposit step works very well. The guest picks a room and dates, pays a deposit by MoMo or card, and your front desk confirms. This is the GHS 6,000 site plus our Mobile Money and card payment integration from GHS 3,000.
Option C: A custom booking engine
For hotels with several room types, seasonal pricing, corporate rates and conference packages, a custom booking engine gives you full control. You set the rules: minimum stays over Christmas, a 50% MoMo deposit for walk-in-week bookings, a corporate code for your regular NGO clients, and automatic WhatsApp confirmations. It's from GHS 15,000 as a custom web application, and it can connect to a full property management system later. If you're thinking that far ahead, read our guide to hotel management systems in Ghana.
| Factor | Third-party widget | Website + payment integration | Custom booking engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Low | From GHS 9,000 combined | From GHS 15,000 |
| Ongoing fees | Monthly subscription, sometimes per booking | Gateway fees only | Gateway fees and hosting only |
| Mobile Money | Check with provider | Yes | Yes |
| Live availability | Yes | Request-based | Yes |
| Design control | Limited | Full | Full |
| Who owns the data | Shared with provider | You | You |
Can guests pay hotel deposits with Mobile Money?
Yes. A properly built hotel website in Ghana lets guests pay deposits or full stays with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money through a licensed gateway like Paystack or Hubtel, with an instant confirmation to both the guest and your front desk. The days of "send MoMo to 024… and WhatsApp the screenshot" should be over.
Why does this matter so much? Three reasons:
- No-shows drop. A guest who has paid a deposit turns up. A guest who "reserved" by WhatsApp often doesn't.
- Reconciliation is automatic. Every payment carries the booking reference. Your accountant stops chasing screenshots.
- Fraud risk falls. Personal MoMo numbers on a website invite impersonators. A gateway checkout on your own domain doesn't.
Paystack's Ghana pricing page also lists transfers to mobile money wallets at GHS 1 each, which matters if you process refunds for cancellations. Hubtel is another strong Ghanaian option with deep MoMo coverage; check the current merchant rates on hubtel.com before you decide, because gateway pricing changes. We integrate both, and our Paystack vs Hubtel comparison for Ghanaian websites explains the differences in detail.
How we set up deposits for most hotels
For most hotels, we recommend a deposit model rather than full prepayment: a percentage at booking, the balance at check-in. It respects how Ghanaian guests like to pay, it protects you against no-shows, and it keeps your cancellation policy simple. For peak periods like December, when the diaspora comes home, you can switch to full prepayment for those dates only.
How do I get my hotel on Google with prices and a booking button?
You get your hotel on Google with prices and a booking link through two things working together: a claimed and verified Google Business Profile, and a connection to Google Hotel Center that sends your rates and availability to Google. When both are in place, travellers can see your prices on Google Search and Maps and click straight through to book on your website.
Your Google Business Profile
Google's own help page for hotels explains that once your profile is claimed and verified, you can edit your hotel's amenities in the "Hotel details" section, and that the prices and booking links on your profile come from Google Hotel Ads and free booking links. In other words, the profile alone shows people you exist. The booking link is what turns that into revenue.
Basic profile hygiene matters:
- Your hotel name exactly as it appears on your signboard and website.
- The correct category ("Hotel", "Guest house", "Resort hotel").
- The same phone number and address everywhere, including your Ghana Post GPS address on your website.
- Real photos of rooms, the pool, the restaurant and the entrance.
- Replies to every review, good and bad, in a calm, professional tone.
Google free booking links
Here's the part most hotel owners in Ghana don't know about. Google offers free booking links: unpaid listings in Google's hotel results that send travellers straight to your booking page. Google states that hotel partners pay no fee for them and that there's no cost for clicks. To appear, you need a booking site with rates and availability that Google can read, either through your own Hotel Center account or through a reservation system provider that's already connected to Google.
That last point is why your booking engine choice matters. A contact form can't feed Google prices. A real booking engine, or a connected provider, can. When we scope a hotel project, we check which route makes sense for you before we write a line of code.
For the wider picture of ranking in Ghana, see our step-by-step Google Business Profile guide for Ghana. And because more travellers now ask ChatGPT or Gemini "where should I stay in Accra?", it's worth making sure your hotel name, address and phone number match exactly across your website, Google, the OTAs and social media, because AI tools cross-check those sources.
What does our hotel work look like?
One of the live projects on our portfolio is San Marino Hotel, an Accra hotel website with a booking flow. I'm not going to quote you made-up numbers about it; you can look at the live work yourself and judge the quality. That's the point: go and check. Our portfolio of live client websites lists it alongside work for Hollard Ghana, SIC Insurance PLC and others, so you can see we build for organisations that take trust seriously.
We also work across the wider hospitality sector, from restaurants to short-stay apartments. If your business sits somewhere between a hotel and a serviced apartment, our hospitality industry page shows how we approach it.
How do we build a hotel website? Our step-by-step process
We build hotel websites in seven steps, and most Professional sites go live in 2 to 5 weeks. Custom booking engines take 6 to 12 weeks. Here's exactly what happens at each stage, so you know what you're agreeing to.
- Discovery call (free). We talk through your rooms, rates, guest mix (local, corporate, diaspora, international), current OTA share and front-desk process. You leave with a written scope and a fixed price, not a vague estimate.
- Booking and payment plan. We decide together whether you need a third-party widget, a website plus payment integration, or a custom booking engine. We confirm which gateway (Paystack, Hubtel or both) and whether you'll take deposits or full payment.
- Content and photos. You send room details, policies and photos. If your photos are weak, we'll tell you honestly and recommend booking a photographer before launch. Room photos sell rooms.
- Design. We design the home page and one room page first, on mobile. You approve the look before we build the rest. No surprises.
- Build and integration. We build the pages, the admin panel and the booking flow, connect Mobile Money and card payments, set up WhatsApp buttons, SSL and backups, and add hotel schema markup for Google.
- Testing with real money. We make real test bookings with MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and a card, on Android and iPhone, on slow connections. Then we refund them. If a payment confirmation doesn't arrive, we fix it before you launch, not after.
- Launch, training and handover. We go live, set up or tidy your Google Business Profile, train your reservations staff, and hand over every login: domain, hosting, admin, gateway. You own it all from day one.
Then the support period starts: one month on Starter, three months on Professional. After that, you can keep us on a monthly SEO and marketing plan or manage it yourself.
Should I use Wix or WordPress for my hotel website instead?
You can, and for a very small guest house with no budget, a template site is better than nothing. But for a hotel that wants direct bookings with Mobile Money, template builders tend to hit limits fast: booking plugins that don't support MoMo, monthly subscription fees that never stop, and plugins that break when they update.
The real question isn't "which platform?" It's "who's going to make the booking and payment flow work for Ghanaian guests, and who's going to fix it when it breaks during the December rush?" If you're weighing that up, our honest comparison of Wix against a custom-built site for Ghana lays out the trade-offs, including where Wix is the right call.
What do diaspora and international guests need from a Ghanaian hotel website?
Diaspora and international guests need three things before they'll book: proof that your hotel is real, a way to pay by card in a currency they understand, and fast answers to their questions. Get those right and you'll capture bookings that would otherwise go to an OTA by default.
- Proof. A full address with a map pin, recent photos, real Google reviews, your Ghana Tourism Authority licence where applicable, and a working phone and WhatsApp number.
- Card payments. A Ghanaian family in Houston will pay with a US Visa card. Paystack's Ghana pricing page notes that cards are charged and settled in cedis by default, so show an approximate dollar or pound figure next to cedi prices to help them, and make it clear what they'll be charged.
- Airport and transport info. Distance and typical travel time from Kotoka International Airport, whether you offer airport pickup and what it costs.
- December and festival planning. If you get a rush for Christmas, Detty December events or the PANAFEST and Emancipation period, create landing pages for those dates and promote early-booking deposits.
- Time-zone-friendly contact. A WhatsApp button that actually gets answered, including on weekends. A late reply to a guest in London loses the booking.
What about data protection and guest privacy?
Your hotel collects names, phone numbers, emails, ID details and sometimes passport numbers. That's personal data under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and the Act requires data controllers to register with the Data Protection Commission. Your website should collect only what you need at booking, store it securely, and tell guests in a clear privacy policy how you use it.
In practice that means: HTTPS on every page, no card numbers ever stored on your server (the gateway handles that), admin accounts with strong passwords and two-factor login where possible, and regular backups. Never ask guests to WhatsApp a photo of their Ghana Card or passport to a staff member's personal phone. Collect it securely at check-in instead.
Why I believe Doctor Barns Tech is the best choice for hotel websites in Ghana
I'm not going to tell you we're "the number one hotel web designer" because some award said so. Instead, here are reasons you can check yourself before you spend a pesewa:
- Published prices. GHS 5,000 Starter, GHS 6,000 Professional, payment integration from GHS 3,000, custom booking engines from GHS 15,000. Our website design service lists exactly what each includes.
- Mobile Money built in. MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money aren't an afterthought. They're part of how we build.
- Named live work. San Marino Hotel, Hollard Ghana, SIC Insurance PLC, the EPA Oil and Gas portal and more, all public on our portfolio.
- You own everything. Code, content, domain in your hotel's name, guest data. No lock-in, no commission on bookings.
- A studio you can walk into. 111 New Town Rd, Accra. Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00, Saturday 10:00–14:00. We've been doing this since 2018. If you're in Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale or abroad, we work by WhatsApp and video call.
- Fair payment terms. 50% upfront, 50% on launch. You don't pay the balance until your site is live and working.
That's the risk reversal: you see the design before we build, you test real MoMo payments before launch, and you don't pay the second half until it's live.
Your hotel website checklist before you sign with anyone
Print this. Take it into every meeting with every developer, including us.
- Will the domain be registered in my hotel's name?
- Can guests pay deposits by MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, AirtelTigo Money and card?
- Does the booking flow show live availability, or is it a request form?
- How will you prevent double bookings with Booking.com and Expedia?
- Can my staff change rates, block rooms and add offers without calling you?
- Is SSL, backup and the first year of hosting included?
- Will you set up my Google Business Profile and explain how free booking links work for us?
- What's the support period after launch, and what does it cost after that?
- Do I get every login at handover?
- Can I see a live hotel or booking site you've built?
If a developer can't answer those clearly, keep looking.
